  • The Emerald Group of companies is wholly owned by Diane Foreman, one of New Zealand’s leading entrepreneurs, who has many years experience running and growing successful businesses in health, property, recruitment, and of course, award winning ice cream. Diane is also a Director of a number of private and public companies in New Zealand.
  • The Emerald Group is the 100% New Zealand owner of both Emerald Foods Ltd, a Premium Ice Cream manufacturer based in Auckland, New Zealand, and New Zealand Natural, a global ice cream parlour franchise network, with over 650 branded stores in more than 24 countries.
  • Emerald Foods was established in 1985 and now employs over 100 staff at its busy East Tamaki factory in Auckland, New Zealand.
  • Emerald Foods also has offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Shanghai.
  • Emerald’s factory is strategically located in Auckland, geographically close in proximity to the key fresh milk and cream supply region of the Waikato, heartland of New Zealand’s free range dairy country.
  • Emerald Foods manufacture and sell a wide variety of ice cream products under its own brands in grocery, foodservice and parlour as well as private brand products for customers around the world. In addition to our multi-award winning range of flavours, we are constantly innovating and have launched several world-first new products in recent years.
  • Emerald Foods dominates the NZ premium grocery ice cream category with 7 of the top 10 selling SKU’s in New Zealand key accounts, across 3 premium brands* (reference Aztec Data ¼ to Nov 2010).

Production Policies

We create products:

  • That must always be "Food Safe".
  • That meet our customers taste and technical specifications.
  • That are made from top quality New Zealand sourced fresh milk and cream (no dairy raw materials are imported from other countries to make our products).
  • Emerald Foods does not and will not knowingly use any GMO ingredients in its ice cream.
  • All our dairy products are Estrogen free (banned in New Zealand).
  • All our dairy products are free of Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (RBGH) (banned from use in New Zealand cattle).
  • All our dairy products come from only EU approved suppliers in NZ, providing full trace back capability.
  • We utilise cream from free range, grass-fed herds (no indoor milk production) providing milk and cream and therefore ice cream with taste consistency all year round.
  • Because our herds are free range grass-fed we have a low carbon footprint versus most other countries.


The Factory

  • Emerald has invested heavily to ensure it has a state-of-the-art production facility that meets global hygiene and food safety requirements.
  • Our production facility meets production standards of over 30 countries around the world and most notably the EU, USFDA and Japanese Health requirements, including regular independent customer quality inspections.
  • Winner of 39 Gold and Best in Category medals at the New Zealand Ice Cream manufacturers awards in the last 4 years alone.
